I could not figure this car out as it did not appear in the CB&Q roster listed in Burlington Route Historical Society's Burlington Bulletin # 7, so I asked Hol Wagner, and here is his reply:

It's one of the 800 XM-32s of various subclasses sold to the Chicago Freight Car Co., rebuilt and repurchased as Nos. 38000-38799 in 1965-66 and shown thereafter as built in 1965-66. As photos have proved, Chicago Freight Car did not sell back only former Q XM-32s to the Q, as there are photos of at least one or two Pullman PS-1 cars among these 38000s. I don't know that they ever received an XM-32 sub-class.

Description:  CB&Q Class XA-12A diagram, issued May 1945, Chuck Zeiler collection. There is some conflicting information about this diagram. This is Drawing A-8, the index indicates that Drawing A-8 is for Class XA-13 for 200 cars in the 40000-40199 number series, built in 1930 by Pressed Steel Car Company, 40'6" inside length, 100M (50 ton) capacity. The index also indicates that Drawing A-7 is for 300 cars, Class XA-12, in the 40200-40499 number series, also built by Pressed Steel in 1930, 40'6" inside length, 100M capacity. This drawing is a revision, and indicates the car(s) depicted were equipped with Evans Auto Loaders, likely the explanation for the A suffix on the class designation. Trucks on both classes were #53. The Class XA-13 cars were equipped with end doors.

Description:  CB&Q XM-32 40004, Cicero, Illinois, October 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the book "CB&Q Color Guide To Freight and Passenger Equipment", by Michael J. Spoor: "In 1969 the Burlington sold 960 XM32's to United States Leasing International, who contracted with Havelock (CB&Q's shops in Havelock, Nebraska) to rebuild the cars with eight foot doors, door gussets, and strengthened side sills. When the cars entered service as CB&Q #39675-40634, all were painted in the pre-merger Cascade Green paint scheme." The plan was to add the word NORTHERN below the BURLINGTON, but by the time the merger was consummated, the font had changed to a thinner style, so these cars never received the full merger name. I've classed it as an AAR type B107, because that is how it is listed in the October 1971 Official Railway Equipment Register.

In his book, "CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment", Mike Spoor describes this class of boxcar as follows: "Havelock (Nebraska, CB&Q shops) built 600 combination door 40'6" boxcars in 1959 which were classified XM-2's. Numbered #41000-41599, they had a 100,000 pound capacity and all were adorned with the Chinese Red paint scheme." This side shows the Everywhere West slogan below the herald, and the other side would have the Way Of The Zephyrs slogan painted below the herald. The re-weigh date is: OC. 8.79.
