BM 2-8-4 #4001 "Cobra hooded" - Boston & Maine
Title:  BM 2-8-4 #4001 "Cobra hooded" - Boston & Maine
Description:  An interesting feature of this 1928 Lima built 2-8-4 Berkshire was the Coffin feedwater heater that circled the crown of the smoke box, nicknamed the "cobra-hooded" look. Eventually this loco was sold to the ATSF in 1945 and renumbered ATSF 4193. Note on back of photo states - " B.&M. 4001 (2-8-4) arriving in W.R. Juct. From Boston." Specs - T-1a class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders. No date or photographer was listed.

BM 2-8-44018 - Boston & Maine
Title:  BM 2-8-44018 - Boston & Maine
Description:  Although poor quality, the photo taken by an unknown photographer captures Boston & Maine 2-8-4 #4018 heading up a fast moving freight train. The Coffin feedwater heater wrapping around the front earned the class the nickname of "cobra-hooded" locos. This loco along with 6 other class members was sold to ATSF in 1945 and was renumbered 4199. The location and date were not specified so approximates were used.

BM 2-8-4 #4019 "Cobra hooded" - Boston & Maine
Title:  BM 2-8-4 #4019 "Cobra hooded" - Boston & Maine
Description:  Unfortunately this poor quality photo barely shows the unique Boston & Maine "cobra-hooded" Berkshire built by Lima in 1928. The interesting "cobra-hood" feature was actually the Coffin feedwater heater that circled the crown of the smoke box. Eventually this loco was sold to SP in 1945 and renumbered SP 3509. Specs - T-1a class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders. No date, location or photographer was listed.

BM 4-6-2 #3715 - Boston & Maine
Title:  BM 4-6-2 #3715 - Boston & Maine
Description:  This is one of the only 10 4-6-2 Pacifics built by Lima for the Boston & Maine. In addition, these last 10 Lima Pacifics were the last Pacifics that Lima would ever build. To commemorate these last 10, B&M held a children's naming contest. The winning name for #3715 was "Kwasind" from the "Song of Hiawatha". All the rest of the Boston & Maine's large stable of 4-6-2 Pacifics were built by Alco, nearly all of those were Schenectady locos with the exception of the DLW Brooks built locos that were purchased in 1943. Specs - serial #7655, P-4 class, 80" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders. No exact date, location or photographer was listed for this photo but it appears to be Boston, MA.
