Album Info:In November 2006 I moved to Rogers Ark, then six months later to Siloam Springs, on the Heavener Sub. Since then, I have taken a lot of photos on the KCS in my new home town. This album contains anything I took between Davidson Rd, MP 226.5, and Elm St, approximately MP 233.

Three Belles
Title:  Three Belles
Description:  What I have found intriguing about the repaint program on KCS is that the local power, and even some switchers, have mostly been painted into the Belle scheme, a lot of them long ago. I rarely encounter a gray GP 38 or 40 much-though there was one on the dodger earlier this week. Todays dodger has a Belle trio as it makes its way onto the main and heads for Decatur.

Giving them a push
Title:  Giving them a push
Description:  This train needs it, too. The H train rolled past with 135 cars. Since KCS has implemented a precision scheduling program, it seems the trains have gotten longer, though it also seems there arent as many of them. A new GE is doing the honors at Jefferson St.

Finally caught one
Title:  Finally caught one
Description:  Ive had little luck catching the new 5000 series ET44AHs in good light, in the lead. I was heading up to the transfer station with three bags full, and saw a southbound approaching the Lincoln Av crossing. I didnt like the angle there, so turned and headed for Jefferson St. I was able to get this shot of the H KCSH rolling around the curve at the crossing with a new GE in good sun. Id have chased him, but I had three bags of really stinky garbage in the back. So it goes.

Title:  Barely made it
Description:  I was coming home from Harps, a local grocery, when I saw the clear board at the south end of Siloam as I crossed the tracks at Kenwood St. I made a quick U turn, pulled into a driveway, and ran. I was able to get the shot of this southbound 117 car oil train, but it appears my auto focus is not cooperating. New lens, perhaps?? Christmas is coming!!

Getting harder to find
Title:  Getting harder to find
Description:  The dodger, L 102, rolls south behind a gray GP 38. Once a common scheme, now it seems almost all the four motor power has been repainted into the Belle scheme. It used to be I would look for a Belle unit leading. Now, the rarity is one in the old scheme. Southbound going under US 412 with 15 cars.

Description:  A alightly askew. We were on our way to church when I saw the gates go down in the distance. New power, new gates
Title:  New power, new gates
Description:  The DPU on a TXUX coal train rolls away from me-I was on my way to drop recycling, and missed the head end, but its almost a sure thing it was a pair of BNSF units-at Lake Frances Rd. The city just finished a four month(!!!) rehab project on it from the tracks out to Ark 59. The last part of the project is new crossing protection. The crossing, which had flashers, now will have gates too, but theyre not fully operational yet, as you can see by the lack of gates!! A Progress Rail demonstrator brings up the rear.

Longest train
Title:  Longest train
Description:  I caught this train working hard as it crossed Lake Frances Rd, and bolted for the empty lot between the Lincoln Av and Tahlequah St crossings. A few minutes later, he showed with three six axles and a switcher(in tow, I think), still moving slowly. As I usually do, I started counting cars. The final total was 210, the longest merchandise train Ive ever seen. Ive seen longer coal trains on NS in Virginia, and longer stack trains on Conrail and BNSF, but never a mixed freight of this size. The longest I can recall is 190 cars on Conrail between Buffalo and Erie. In a testament to the pulling power of AC units, this train had three six axles up front, and an ET44AH 125 cars in.

Description:  This SD 70MAC was leading a work train in the south siding, and had been laid up there for a couple of days. I was surprised to see it in the charge of what was not that long ago, prime power for most road trains. I had not seen one of these units in months, so it was good to see a clean one.

Just after the light goes
Title:  Just after the light goes
Description:  I had sanitized the fresh water in the RV, and was driving around town to mix get it good and mixed, and wash up the tank, when I saw the signal up at Davidson Rd clear for a southbound. I went back down to Tahlequah St, since it was the only place I had a chance at getting the remaining light. He must have been dragging up the hill from Gentry, because it took 15 minutes for the train to get here, not surprising with 102 cars, about ten minutes too late for a sunlit shot. So it goes...

Lucky catch
Title:  Lucky catch
Description:  I was taking recyclables up to the transfer station, which means I need to cross the KCS at Lincoln Av. I looked down the track to see a pair of lights. Its Saturday, not likely to be a track car out. A moment later, the top light of the three popped out from under the Cheri Whitlock Dr overpass. I swung around into the empty lot at Tahlequah St for this last light shot of a 125 car TXUX coal train headed for Texas, where they could use the power right now. That white stuff on the ground?? Snow. We had about 10 over the last week, though today the temperature is in the mid 40's, and a lot of it has melted.

DPU coming
Title:  DPU coming
Description:  The DPU on the TXUX train rolls toward me, a typical three unit set. This one has what is now an unusual unit bringing up the rear.
