Today we are going to follow the Waterlevel Route from New Carlisle, IN-Edgerton, OH hoping to catch a few South Shore trains in Lydick. This is the first time we have taken a 2 day trip together and we are hoping to catch plently of trains. The first train I caught all by myself. If it werent for construction work in town none of us would have seen this train. NS 1078 leads NS 26W east through New Carlisle to begin the day. |

Just as soon as NS 52Z cleared we heard our next South Shore train approaching so we rushed over to the South Shore tracks to get it. NS and South Shore parrallel each other between the outskirts of New Carlisle and South Bend closely so it was easy to move between the two. Sadly, the very high humidity caused my lense to begin to fog up which started happening right before this train came. South Shore 7 rockets east continuing its journey to the South Bend Airport. |

Next we got up to Millersburg before meeting up with CP 140 again. They stopped there because, to our suprise over on the other side of town, was a Sperry Railcar working its way towards us. We took some more photos of this train, but they got the clear to continue east so we crossed over to the other side so the Sperry car wouldnt be blocked out by the CP train. But then we learned that the only reason that the CP train continued on was because the Sperry Railcar had stopped to allow it to pass. This would be the final time we would see CP 140. |

And from NS 21G came the chase of a lifetime. We had left the CP 395 signals and heard on the scanner the sound on a train calling signals. We figured it was NS 21G but we were wrong. It was eastbound NS 14Q with a CN leading. It had gotten in front of us at Wawaka. So to attempt to try to catch the train, which never slowed down below 50 MPH we chased the train from Ligonier to just east of Waterloo just barely beating it! |

After NS 31M passed, NS 914, a loaded welded rail train, which was sitting parked at Delkalb Agra got a new crew and they asked for permission to come out of the spur and head west to Elkhart. But the engine was completely dead and they couldnt move the train. So the dispatcher was going to send an engine from Bryan to go pick it up and bring it west. Never have gotten a shot from this viewpoint! |
