Cover Caption: "Horse Shoe action, J.J. Young, Jr.; Baldwin 6001, H.L. Broadbelt Collection." Pictured at the bottom of the page is #6001, an A-B-B-A demonstrator set of DR-4-4-1500 engines built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1949. This set was first owned by the Elgin, Joliet, & Eastern Railroad, but ended up eventually on the Baltimore & Ohio.

Partial Caption: "En route from Enola to Altoona, Pa., a pair of Pennsy Centipedes articulate their way westward with a deadheading Alco switcher in tow in the consist behind." Both "Centipedes" are BH-50's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60 passenger engines rated at 3,000 horsepower each, but later regeared and reclassified as 2,250 horsepower BH-50's for freight only. #5828 was constructed in November of 1948 and retired in April of 1962.

Partial Caption: "Atop the Alleghenies, Baldwin Centipede helper units 5822-5832 take on fuel at AR Tower before descending the grade back to Altoona, Pa." Partially visible here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5832, a BH-50 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1948, originally rated at 3,000 horsepower for passenger service, downgraded to 2,500 horsepower for freight/helper/pusher service, and retired in April of 1962.
