Album Info:April 28 CB&Q fan trip with 5632 to Dubuque, Iowa. The night before I took some photos at the Clyde Yard roundhouse in Chicago. The next day I rode on it with friends John Bush and Scott Redfield. John Bush drove us in his father’s faded and tired 1960 red Ford Falcon to downtown Chicago to take some photos and then out to the LaGrange stop where we got on the train. The train had the TRMSP&B "Captain Hook" private car directly behind the locomotive with its open observation platform facing the rear of the tender. An open gondola was at the rear of the train. They did this arrangement because the entire train could not be turned at Dubuque, only the engine. So the gondola was directly behind the engine on the return trip to Chicago with the "Captain Hook" then on the rear. The film was Kodachrome 64 for slides but turned a little pinkish over the years.

Description:  This is a Grun & Bilfinger narrow gauge 0-4-0 that was being stored in the CB&Q roundhouse at Clyde Yard, Cicero, IL. Unknown which engine name since it seems to have been painted over on the cab below the Grun & Bilfinger name which is itself partially scraped off. Note the short length of narrow gauge track set up on top of one of the roundhouse tracks.

Note that after the train was turned the private car "Captain Hook" is now at the end and the open gondola is now behind the tender. It was dark before the train got back to Chicago and they were trying to make up time by going 80 mph plus. You didnt hear a "chuff chuff" but rather a deafening roar of the exhaust and track noise. It was quite a visceral experience.
