Grun & Bilfinger narrow gauge 0-4-0 at CB&Q Clyde Yard roundhouse |
Description: |
This is a Grun & Bilfinger narrow gauge 0-4-0 that was being stored in the CB&Q roundhouse at Clyde Yard, Cicero, IL. Unknown which engine name since it seems to have been painted over on the cab below the Grun & Bilfinger name which is itself partially scraped off. Note the short length of narrow gauge track set up on top of one of the roundhouse tracks. |

CB&Q 5632 Photo run by unknown location |
Description: |
CB&Q 5632 on westbound leg of fan trip doing photo run by at unknown location. Note the private car "Captain Hook" facing the tender. This is because the train couldn't be turned in Dubuque. So the private car was at the end for the return trip to Chicago and the open gondola directly behind the engine. |

Note that after the train was turned the private car "Captain Hook" is now at the end and the open gondola is now behind the tender. It was dark before the train got back to Chicago and they were trying to make up time by going 80 mph plus. You didnt hear a "chuff chuff" but rather a deafening roar of the exhaust and track noise. It was quite a visceral experience. |
