Title:  DMIR 2-8-8-4 #235- Duluth Missabe & Iron Range
Description:  Beautiful long shot of Duluth Missabe & Iron Range 2-8-8-4 #235, a Yellowstone type wheel configuration. The loco was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1943 (serial #64714, M4 class) and hauled the long drags of ore cars for nearly 19 years before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. Title:  DMIR 2-8-8-4 #227 - Duluth Missabe & Iron Range
Description:  Dragging long strings of ore cars was the true and sole purpose of this massive 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type locomotive, DMIR #227, as seen in this action shot.. Built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1941 (serial #62533, class M3), the loco was a main power source for nearly 20 years before being retired. Surviving the scrapper's torch, this loco was stored at Proctor, MN, In 1967, it was moved to the Lake Superior RR Museum and put on display. oday, her driving wheels are supported slightly above the railheads. An electric motor is used to spin her wheels slowly so that you can see the motion of the massive valve gear. From the collection of Howard W. Ameling

Description:  With a blast of smoke and a whistle blowing, Duluth Missabe & Iron Range 2-8-8-4 #226 moves along the tracks. Built by Baldwin in ay of 1941 (serial #62532, class M3), this behemoth was a powerful force on the rails. After nearly 21 years of service, the loco was finally sold for scrap in 1962 and what a scrap pile that would have made!
