EMDX 1975

Title:	EMDX 1975
Description:	Built in May of 1975, this prototype was built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. First operated by Penn Central, then later Amtrak and Conrail, #1975 was eventually scrapped in the mid 80's after the need for an order of these locomotives was no longer required due to Conrail scaling back its electrified lines. This shot was taken circa 1977 as the unit sat in Pavonia Yard. (Note the Conrail NW2 switcher behind #1975)

Description:	Taken in Pavonia Yard (date approximate), this E40 once belonged to the New Haven Railroad (NH 377 EP-5). Upon acquisition by Penn Central and deligated to freight assignments, one of 4977's pantographs was removed as well as its steam generator. This unit was eventually scrapped in 1979.
