With Hoosier pride, I post this nice older print of a 1911 Alco-Brooks 2-8-0 Consolidation built in May of 1911 originally as CIL 288 but renumbered to CIL 283 in 1911. The crew was caught posing in their loco by an unknown photographer.as it stood in the Indianapolis yard. This might very well have been the last photo taken of the loco as it was retired on 10/19/1947 and sold for scrap in February of 1948. Specifics - 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 22x30" cylinders, engine weight of 209,200 lb, tractive effort of 43,305 lb, superheated in the 1920's. |
