Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8612, #8613, and #8614. All are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are pushing a mixed-cargo freight train past SLOPE Tower and under the 24th Street Bridge on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and return to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run.

These two locomotives are pushing a 77-car freight train up the New Portage Branch Line to Gallitzin and points West. The caboose is N-8 #478214. The PRR's WYE Tower is visible in the distance.

Description:  Horseshoe Curve-1966. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-May of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8613 and #8657. Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8613 is an AS-24M built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #8657 is an AS-18AM built in 1957 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They are pulling one hopper car and an N-5 caboose up the Alleghenies to Gallitzin and points West.
