It was published originally in the October 1956 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 37. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Only railfans are around to mourn the loss at Modena, Pa., as DD-1's in postwar Long Island paint scheme line up....Destination: scrap." Shown here are LIRR engines #348-A and #348-B. Before being transferred to the LIRR in February of 1928, they were originally PRR #11 ~ consisting of #3954 and #3955. Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower. Bottom Photo, Partial Caption: "Both units tell of 1939-1940 special service when DD-1's forwarded trains from Penn Station to World's Fair site." Shown here is PRR engine #16, consisting of #3964 and #3965. Both are DD-1's (2-B+B-2) built in Juniata during July of 1910 and rated at 3,160 horsepower; both were transferred to the Long Island Rail Road in December of 1944 and renumbered: #3964 became "359-A" and #3965 became "359-B." |
