Description:  SP SD40R 7322 at Bensenville on Illinois, January 23, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. I will point out that this was a public road on the south side of the Milwaukee Road's Bensenville Shops, and all you had to do was drive up this road and snap photos like this, without even getting out of your car.

Title:  SP SD40R 7322
Description:  SP SD40R 7322 at Bensenville, Illinois on January 23, 1987, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. According to the book, 'Southern Pacific Diesel Locomotive Compendium, Volume Two', by Joseph A. Strapac, this unit was built in February 1966 as SD40 number 8415 (c/n 31496) , upgraded (completed September 18, 1980) and renumbered to SD40R 7322 at Sacramento. The upgrading amounted to replacing the installed electronics with Dash-2 equipment. It was retired August 6, 2002, sold to General Electric Credit Corp., then to BHP-BIO in Australia and renumbered to 3087.

Description:  Southern Pacific SD40R 7346 (built 1066 as SP SD40 8462, became WAMX SD40-2 4121) leads out of Tunnel 3 climbing Tehachapi Pass at Bealville, California - December 29, 1991. Santa Fe 3751 is following this train and will famously steam blast clean the tunnel from decades of soot, bringing it down to coat the train.
