A Cargill RENT-A-TRAIN was passing on the left, while on the extreme right were some passenger cars that belonged to the Southeast Louisiana Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society. Description:  Wow, does anything say 1980s quite like the old Dodge Rampage? Always found them to be rather unfortunate looking vehicles myself. But speaking of not seeing it anymore, you certainly won't see this or any other railroad action in Red Bud, IL anymore. Rather surprised to find there are no other photos from this location. -- I know there are some out there. Here, an ex-GM&O geep trundles a local turn along the - now abandoned - ex-GM&O line past the ex-GM&O depot in the Spring of 87.

Description:  ICG GP38-2 9568, Chicago, Illinois, September 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in April 1972 as GM&O GP38-2 748 (c/n 7351-9) it became ICG 9568 and later IC 9568. It is seen passing through Alton Junction. The pile of rails and ties is what was left after the last connection to Dearborn Street Station was removed. The pile is on top of the former GM&O leads to Union Station. Those rails will be restored.

Description:  ICG GP38-2 9601 at Fort Wayne Junction (aka Alton Junction), near 22nd Street, Chicago, Illinois, September 1979, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in November 1974 (c/n 74646-2), it was named "P.G.T. Beauregard". Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard (May 28, 1818 - February 20, 1893) was a Louisiana-born American military officer, politician, inventor, writer, civil servant, and the first prominent general of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Today he is commonly referred to as P.G.T. Beauregard. During the war years, he rarely used his first name and signed correspondence as G.T. Beauregard. He was the president of the New Orleans Jackson & Mississippi Railroad from 1865 to 1870. While president of the New Orleans and Carrollton Street Railway (1866-1876), he invented a system of cable-powered street railway cars.
