CGW RS2 54
Title:  CGW RS2 54
Description:  Chicago Great Western Railway RS2 54 at Randolph, Minnesota on February 12, 1975, Kodachrome by J. H. Nixon, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built in August 1949 (c/n 77186), it was one of eight RS2's (#'s 50-57) on the CGW roster. All went to the C&NW in the July 1968 merger, and retained their CGW numbers. This particular unit was the last locomotive on the C&NW in CGW paint, and the last operating RS2 on the C&NW. It was in service at Randolph, MN September 1976, at Huron, SD during October 1979, and was retired February 17, 1981 and sold to Precision National Corp, Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Description:  Since Jeff's 1950s CGW/Milwaukee Road HO switching layout is still in the planning stages, his Walthers/Proto CGW RS2 poses on his kitchen counter. The real CGW 54 was the last unit in CGW paint after the C&NW merger, and the last operating RS2 on C&NW. The tiny builders plate on the frame of the model incorrectly reads 4/50 with a serial number of 77079; this actually corresponds to City of Prineville S1 #101!

Description:  Built by Alco in October of 1947 as MON #27, the loco served until being rebuilt by Alco in 1964 and renumbered at that time to MON #56. It was finally traded into GE in Aust of 1972 after the merger into L&N.

Description:  A visit to the NYSW in Binghamton in the mid 80s could turn up almost anything. They ran a number of short lines during that time, among others, the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley, the Fonda, Johnstown & Gloversville, the Central NY-the one that was the ex DLW Richfield Springs branch, not the incarnation created to run the NS former Erie Delaware Division. Their power was painted for any number of these, as we can see here. RS 2 100 is lettered for the Delaware Otsego System, with FJG initials.
