PRR 2-8-0 #1 - Pennsylvania RR
Title:  PRR 2-8-0 #1 - Pennsylvania RR
Description:  This 1892 Burnham, Wms & Co steam locomotive looks resplendent in the photo - with the sign in front, it must have been part of a display. This was a class 1 (or 3685) loco with small 50" drivers. It could develop a boiler pressure of 175 psi for its 24"x28" cylninders and had an engine weight of 150,000 lb. It could apply a modest tractive effort of 24,363 lb. The day in 1936 is approximate. M.C. Poor photo

PRR Locomotive Roster, Page 59, JUL 1941
Title:  PRR Locomotive Roster, Page 59, JUL 1941
Description:  Here is page ten of a 34-page article (in five installments) entitled "Locomotives Of the Pennsylvania." It was published originally in the July 1941 issue of "Railroad" magazine, page 59. Partial Caption: "The Road's 1-Spot is of the 2-8-0 wheel arrangement." PRR engine #1 is an H-6SB (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an H-6B during 1906, rebuilt in Juniata as an H-6SB in April of 1913, and retired in April of 1949. Correction #1 ~> Omitted are the specifications for E-3SD (4-4-2) "Atlantics": 22x26-inch cylinders; 80-inch drivers; 195 pounds of boiler pressure; 55.5 square feet of grate area; 2,041 square feet of heating surface; 412 square feet of superheating surface; 127,200 pounds, weight on drivers; 196,600 pounds, total weight; as well as 26,072 pounds of tractive effort. Correction #2 ~> The tractive effort of the K-5 (4-6-2) "Pacific" class is actually 54,675 pounds, not "64,675."

ATSF 2_8_0 #1 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Title:  ATSF 2_8_0 #1 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe
Description:  This "grand dame" of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Rwy is the oldest surviving ATSF steam locomotive in the US. Originally built as ATSF 132 (serial #5266, class 10-36-E 3) by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in September of 1880, it carried many numbers through the years - #132 in 1880, ##912 in 1898, 2414 in 1900. The loco was rebuilt to 0-8-0, restored to 2-8-0 as #132, and in 1950 overhauled with the new #1 and name "Cyrus K. Holliday". Finally donated to the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka, KS, it was renumbered one more time back to #132. An unknown photographer caught it while it was #1.

ATSF 1
Title:  ATSF 1
Description:  Santa Fe 2-8-0 #1, the “Cyrus K. Holliday,” was originally Santa Fe 2-8-0 #132, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in September 1880. In 1898 the locomotive was renumbered #912, and it was renumbered again in 1900 (to #2414) when converted to an 0-8-0, and renumbered back to #132 again in 1941 (when it was converted back to a 2-8-0). It became #1 (and named for Santa Fe’s first president and a founder of Topeka, KS, Cyrus K. Holliday) in the early 1960s for use as on operating display celebrating the Kansas State Centennial at the Kansas Free Fair in Topeka between June 15th and 25th, 1961. (Frank "Woody" Woodburn photo)

BCG 2-8-0 #4 - Buffalo Creek & Gauley RR
Title:  BCG 2-8-0 #4 - Buffalo Creek & Gauley RR
Description:  Nice photo by an unknown photographer of the only new steam locomotive that the Buffalo Creek & Gauley ever purchased - a 1926 Baldwin Consolidation. No date was provided for this photo but based on what appears to be a 1954 Ford station wagon in the photo, this might be late 1950's-early 1960's - hence the arbitrary date of 1960. The loco has since moved through several owners with the latest news being the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley RR had purchased it from the North Carolina Transportation Museum which had used it for ocassional excursions. The plans are for it to be restored and run from Durban to Cass, WV.
