MBTA 1073
Title:  MBTA 1073
Description:  EXTREMELY RARE!!! MBTA EMD F40PH-2C Locomotive 1073 at Needham Junction Station on February 28, 1989. The 1073 was wrecked one year and 10 months later at the partially underground Back Bay Station in Boston's South End. The damage was so bad the locomotive was thrown through four concrete support columns and wrapped around the fifth one lying on its left side. The unit was nearly in three sections, it was scrapped on site. The Amtrak Locomotives that collided with the 1073 were AMTK 272 & AMTK 366, two screamer F40PHs. The number board for F40PH 272 was poking through a large hole created by the force of the collision in the middle of Dartmouth Street! The 1073 is now the railfans way of saying: "The Rare Baseball Card", Built 3/1988 and wrecked/scrapped 12/12/1990.
