The prototype for fast Bo-Bo type electric locomotives. The Berne-Loetschberg-Simplon Railway (BLS) introduced the design in 1944. It packed 4,000 horsepower into a relatively small locomotive of about 80 tons. Horsepower and speed increased considerably as the design was refined. |
