SI RS1 1211
Spokane International RS1's 1211 and 1221 at Saint Joseph, Missouri on April 28, 1962, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 1211 was built in September 1949 as SI RS1 200 (c/n 77166) on Alco Shop Order S-3112, and after the UP gained control of the SI in 1958, it leased by the UP, repainted and renumbered into the UP system around 1962. It was retired in 1969 and traded to EMD. Note the extra headlight, for which I have no explanation. Aparently it last operated on Train 218.

In about september 1954 Spokane International cancelled the passenger service. These engines were still used in pulling the mail car and were equiped with steam boilers. 2/19/2012 12:32:00 PM
