DH 2-8-0 #1203 - Delaware & Hudson  Contributor's Pick!
Almost being swallowed up by the locomotive, a crew member checks out something above the leading trucks. This is a fine example of a 1918 Alco-Schenectady built Consolidation with 63" drivers, developing 195 psi for its 27"x32" cylinders. The engine weight tipped the scales at 293,000 lb and it could generate a tractive effort of 61,375 lb. All in the class were retired between 1951-53. No photographer listed and the date is approximate.

Dave Korhammer General Great shot! Note the '51-'53 retirement: in an old 3-part "Trains" article, these engines were occasionally still called out as road engines (!) when a larger engine (like a 4-8-4) wasn't available. 5/2/2014 6:55:41 PM
