PRR 4315, I-1SA, 1957
Decapod #4315. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken in Leolyn, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4315, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during December of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1941, and retired in October of 1959 after 37 years of faithful service. As it's entering Leolyn, this southbound mixed-cargo freight train is slowing down so that the fireman can snare the train orders being held in the air by the railroader in the foreground. Also note the semaphore signal. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-7).
