Amtrak Sunset
Cotton Belt SD45 8976 - with UP-style number boards - and Amtrak's TRIPLE NICKEL - SDP40F 555 - were powering train No. 1, the westbound SUNSET, away from Carrollton Junction on the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal WESTERN CONNECTION. The right-of-way in the foreground had been the inbound track for IC, KCS, MP, SP and T&P trains, but this was removed in 1969. U.S. Highway 61 was on the other side of No. 1.
