Original Sea Land  Contributor's Pick!
Back when stack trains were a big new thing, and Walter Rich had done an end run around Conrail with his Jersey-Binghamton haulage rights, he landed a contract to carry Sea Land boxes in a land bridge arrangement with BN, Chessie, and the D&H. It was a greater distance and took longer than APLs route via UP, CNW and Conrail, but somehow, they won the business, partly because Chessie had an interest in Sea Land. As a result, NYSW acquired a fleet of Gunderson stack cars, one of which we see here with a Maersk box in the lower position, headed north on the CSX Lineville Sub.
