| A CN local parallels W. Water St. and passes the parking lot of the Paper Discovery Center as it ascends the grade out of 'The Flats' with 14 cars via former C&NW rails at Appleton, WI on 30 Oct. '18. The local was headed back to the former C&NW yard at Appleton Junction after working eastern Appleton, Kimberly and Combined Locks. Over the past several years, I have noticed that some misinformed individuals erroneously refer to ‘The Flats’ as ‘Oneida Flats,’ or some variation of same. However, the historic, industrial heart of Appleton is simply ‘The Flats.’ |
