Southern Railway FP7’s 6140 and 6144 were arriving in New Orleans on an 8-car special for the SUGAR BOWL game, which would be played in Tulane Stadium the next day. The 6140 was flying green flags, as the special was running as the first section of a scheduled freight train. The train was on the wye at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, just before it backed into the station. All but one of the cars were owned by Nashville scrap dealer David Witherspoon, and the passengers came to watch Tennessee beat Air Force 34-13. |
