Tom Beckett	General	Interesting action shot, but I wonder if that's not Journal Square in Jersey City. Newark Penn Station is elevated, and a rather cavernous building that sits at the west end of the Passaic River bridge, on an embankment above Raymond Blvd. Journal Square is below ground, with the Hudson Tubes-note the sign at the top of the photo-adjacent to the line that goes from Newark to what at that time would have been the ferry terminal at Harsimus Cove. Passenger trains used it til 1961, when the ferries were discontinued and all trains ran into Penn Station in NY. The line still exists there, and the PATH, now operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, uses that platform. The track the train is on, is still used for freight.	11/4/2020 5:49:31 AM

PRR 1453, K-4S, 1956
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken at Journal Square Station in Jersey City, New Jersey, on 25 April 1956. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1453, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during July of 1917 and retired in September of 1956 after 39 years of faithful service.
