AMTK 590, SDP40F, 1976
AHC. Here is an original photo by Larry Moss that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1976. Prominent here are AMTK engines #590 and #470-B. Both were built by GM-EMD. #590 is an SDP40F constructed in May of 1974 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. #470 is an E-9B built originally for the Union Pacific Railroad in October of 1955 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. They're rounding the Curve with a passenger train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. This photo was taken during the time when Track 2 was being removed, hence the presence of the maintenance-of-way equipment parked there.
