Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Prominent here is an unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad "M" Class (4-8-2) "Mountain" steam locomotive. Note that it still has its main driving rod, but the valve gear has been removed in preparation for movement to the Recycling Center. In any event, it looks like its tender has had a "close encounter" of the third kind! |
