This was the observation car on Kansas City Southern train No. 2 – the northbound SOUTHERN BELLE – at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, as the train awaited its 9:30 PM departure time. The car was one of four buffet-lounges built by Budd in February 1948 as New York Central 48-51. They were purchased by the KCS in 1960 and renumbered 44-47, then remodeled into lunch counter-lounge cars 43, 41, 40 and 42 in 1963. All were retired and sold in 1970. |
