CRI&P 630 in 1965 Editors Pick! Contributor's Pick!
Arguably the most beautiful diesel locomotives ever made were the EMD shovel nosed E5As and E6As. Here April 21, 1965's morning sun makes the 24 year old Rock Island E6A 630 looks almost new. She is crossing the PRR diamonds at Englewood Union Station on Chicago's south side with a SB commuter train. Pigs are on another RI track.

Marty Bernard General Thanks Kent. It wasan awsume locomotive! I was standing on PRR tracks when I took the picture and now can't understand why the derail is so close to the diamonds. 2/2/2007 6:06:16 PM
Jack D. Kuiphoff General Marty, This is a great shot of 630. , and I enjoyed every CRI&P shot in your album. Thanks for sharing, and keep them coming. You would happen to have a shot of 4718, do you. I have the number boards out of it when it was on the dead line in Little Rock. 2/18/2007 7:07:30 AM
Tim Huemmer General Yeah that is a good point about the derail. Also of interest is the derail is only on 2 of the tracks. This tells me that his line was set up as 4 track 251 (directional running). 2/19/2007 1:27:34 PM
Ron Moraca General I wonder if this E6A has been preserved anywhere? 11/7/2007 3:33:32 PM
Maurice Mitchell General This beautiful E6A is presently located in Baldwin KS on the Midland Valley RR. It was used in excursion sewrvice along with its younger sister RI 652. However they are both for sail and are stored on s side track with the switch removed 4/19/2010 6:13:28 PM
John Jornod General what is a derailer ? I see the track that is split and I would think this would cause a train to disrail. So does that mean this line is inactive?. 10/10/2014 2:32:34 PM
Chris Lubinski General A stunning photo of the of the "infamous" RI E-6 630 at work! 12/26/2014 11:08:54 AM
Mike Maskel General NICE SHOT 2/11/2015 6:03:05 PM
