GTW 2-8-2 #4070 - Grand Trunk Western
Great action shot of Grand Trunk Western 2-8-2 Mikado #4070. The loco was built by Alco-Schenectady in 1918 as GTW 474, later renumbered 3734 and finally in June of 1958 to #4070 seen here. The loco was retired from active duty in 1960 and sold to a private owner but bought back by the GTW in 1971. It was later donated to the Midwest Railway Preservation Society for use on its Cuyahoga Valley Line in the 1970's. In 1984 the tender was re-lettered to 'Burlington Route,' (aka CB&Q) for a cameo in the move "The Natural" with Robert Redford. Out of service since 1990, she is undergoing a long-term restoration to operable status in Cleveland. No location, date or photographer was listed so I chose a trip it made in 1968 from Chicago to South Bend, IN. as the setting.
