Z-Train Climbing The Hill
The engineer of BNSF 6667 gives us a wave as his Z-train rumbles through Leavenworth. Located at 1,171 feet above sea-level, Leavenworth is one of the few flat spots on the Stevens Pass Route. This train has already climbed nearly 400 feet from the division point at Wenatchee, but will still have to climb another 1700 feet to the summit. The engineer keeps his 4 engines pulling as the rear of his train comes off the 1.6% grade from Wenatchee, and the front begins the long 1.4% climb to the Cascade Tunnel. The second engine is a Canadian Pacific AC44CW.
