Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Chicago, Illinois, c. 1946. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5527, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1945 and retired in December of 1953 after just eight years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling the "Manhattan Limited" across the Chicago River at 21st and Stewart Streets en route to New York City. Gary Mittner Collection. |
