Description:
Here is page nine of a 15-page booklet published by the Pennsylvania Railroad entitled "Modern Cars And Locomotives: 1926." Depicted here are PRR engines #3930, #3929, as well as "Doodlebug" #4731. #3930 is the L-5 (1-B-B-1) electric built in Juniata during January of 1924, rated at 3,300 horsepower, and retired in May of 1944. Engine #3939 is an L-5A (1-B-B-1) electric built in Juniata in January of 1925, rated at 3,070 horsepower, and retired in July of 1942. And "Doodlebug" #4731 is a J.G. Brill-250 gasoline-electric rail motor car that was built in 1925.

Reprinted by Harry P. Albrecht in 1978. Top Photo, Partial Caption: "Gasoline-electric rail motor car, used on branch lines where the service does not warrant the operation of an entire train." Shown here is PRR "Doodlebug" #4731, a J.G. Brill-250 built in 1925. Pictured below is fire-tested PRR P-70 coach #1724.
