Description:  Sweetland. Here is duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in October of 1960. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8607 and #8609. Both are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. #8607 was built in December of 1955 while #8609 was built in January of 1956. In this context, they're serving as "pusher" locomotives for a mail-express train that's passing through the Gallitzin Tunnel; in a matter of minutes, though, they'll uncouple and return to Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run up "The Mountain."

Description:  RR City. Here is an original photo that I took in connection with the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Railroad City Limited" in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8609, #8610, and #8606. All are APS-24MS's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8609 and #8610 were built in 1956, but #8606 was built in 1955. They are running light to the Altoona Passenger Station where they will couple onto the 18-car "Railroad City Limited" for its journey out the Hollidaysburg Branch Line, up the New Portage Branch via the Muleshoe Curve, making a loop through the tunnels at Gallitzin, and then heading down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the Altoona Station. This photo was taken adjacent to ALTO Tower, just short of the 17th Street Bridge.

Also visible behind #8609 is the Crossing Gate Tower, located on 19th Street.

Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866, #9852-B, and #9860 are EFP-15's built in 1952. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in 1950. They are threading the 14th Street interlocking on their way up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route with a 95-car iron-ore train. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible (L to R) are the Altoona Passenger Station, the 12th Street Bridge, a westbound passenger train about to depart, an eastbound passenger train in the process of departing, and several of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.
