EJE DT66-2000 #711 - Elgin, Joliet & Eastern
Talk about "one long drink of water" as diesels go, this massive DT66-2000 loco was built by Baldwin in May of 1948 originally as EJE 111. Although the length is listed as 74', it appears so much longer than that! Itwas renumbered in January of 1958 to EJE #711. After nearly 22 years of service, the loco was retired in February of 1970. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo so approximates were used.

Tom Beckett General If I had to hazard a guess on location, I'd go with Kirk Yard in Gary, since that was their main facility-and I see shop buildings in the background. Pennsy also had these, though I think theirs were 2400 HP. 2/12/2024 3:36:32 AM
